Maybe dinosaurs Removing Gas Warm Earth

WASHINGTON (AFP / AFP) - a giant dinosaur that roamed the earth millions of years ago may warm the planet by the gas they produce from plants and leafy, British scientists said on Monday.

Just as today's modern cattle that secrete a number of methane gas in their digestiveprocess, 20,000 kilograms of sauropods to contribute in the same way, and maybemore, and the climate warms, quotes a U.S. study in the journal Biology today.

Climate during the Mesozoic Era, which lasted for 250 million years ago to about 65million years ago, is believed to be hotter than it is today.

With a large body and long neck like a sauropod Brontosaurus owned for grazing underor on top of the tallest tree, the creature is still much in 150 million years ago, rangingfrom several to several dozen individuals per square kilometer.

They may emit as much as 520 million tons per year of global methane emissions, a level comparable with the total being released today by the animal and industrialactivities, the study authors said.

Currently 80 million metric tons of methane produced by livestock world every year, up about 28 percent of global methane emissions occur on man-made according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.         Dave Wilkinson

"A simple mathematical model showed that the microbes that live in sauropoddinosaurs may produce enough methane to provide an important effect on the climate ofthe Mesozoic," said Dave Wilkinson of Liverpool John Moores University.

"Indeed, our calculations demonstrate that the dinosaur could produce more methanethan all the modern sources - both natural and manmade - put together."

About 150 years ago, before modern industrial power, methane emissions of about 200Tg per year, less than half of the Mesozoic Era.
